This is because a lot of your time on the alley is spent standing around waiting for your turn. A 180 pound person will burn about 150 calories per hour whilst bowling. At 150 pounds you will burn a mere 120 kcal per hour. This is not far above your base rate, and certainly does not compete with continuous aerobic activity, such as running, swimming and cycling. Bowling can actually be a dieting nightmare, as the activity encourages snacking. If you do go bowling with friends, and want to watch your figure, make sure to turn down the beer and crisps. Then go home and do some lunges.
