Calories in Oatmeal

Today I am going to look at the calories in oatmeal and some of its benefits. Oatmeal is considered a healthy breakfast and i read recently that 80% of households have a box in the cupboard somewhere, and although i don’t like the taste very much there are a lot of reasons to have oatmeal for breakfast. The most popular reason being that its very high in soluble fiber, which absorbs a considerable amount of water keeping you feeling full for a lot longer. If, like me, you don’t like the taste of oatmeal then you can always try some recipes which will give it some much needed flavour.

The calories in oatmeal and not very high considering that not a lot of it is eaten in terms of quantity. Here’s the breakdown:

Oatbran (1 oz) contains 97 calories
Oatmeal (Old Fashioned) (1 oz) contains 110 calories
Instant Oats (1 oz) contains 105 calories
Rolled Oats (1 oz) contains 110 calories

    If you don’t like the taste of traditional oatmeal I recommend “Coaches oats”. Costco sells it and it is the best for me…microwaveable.

    How much calories are added with water / milk? Which is the healthiest? I have to have milk in my oatmeal for me to even want to eat it.

      Hi Justin,

      The calories added will depend on the calories in the milk you are using. Add that to whatever Oatmeal calories based on potion size and you are good to go. Oatmeal with water is the lowest calorie option, however, in terms of health, it really depends on the rest of your diet and what your macro-nutrient distribution is.
