Protein shakes are absolutely fantastic when it comes to pre-workout or post-workout nutrition. The shake can be tailored to fit whatever your needs are, and with the right ingredients it could even taste great. The majority of them are Whey Protein Shake Recipes but there are a few that are based around Milk and Eggs as the protein source.
When I first started out, i had absolutely no idea how to make one, or even the different combinations that were possible. I then set out to compile a list, with all the protein shake recipes I could find online and what you below, is the result of that search.
As for this list of shakes, what you will see are the ingredients. The actual process of making them is quite simple, and just involves putting everything in a blender and blitzing it for about 45 seconds. You can increase/decrease Ice into the mix until you get the consistency you like (thick or smooth).

Absolutely priceless information I have just printed this off. I’m just mixing mine with water, milk and bananas at the moment. But your list has shown me that you can do so much more.
Thanks!
Great information! Tomorrow I am going to make one!
love the shake recipies. I just had bariatric surgery nd have to drink protien shakes. I was struggling until I found your website.
I have been looking for a smoothie recipe using pumpkin. I’ll have to try #76, although I’ll omit the Splenda for regular brown sugar.
Great recipes, have tried a few of them and they taste great. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup was great really enjoyed it.
Here’s one: The balanced meal shake – trial and error on my part built this. You can hide veggies in a shake your kid will love. Crazy but true.
1 cup milk
1 serving vanilla or chocolate protein powder (= 1 scoop of Muscle Milk whey, Jay Robb, etc.).
1 banana
1 Tbsp sugar-free pudding mix or 2 Tbsp regular pudding mix
3 oz. carrot
1 oz. raw spinach
3/4 cup ice
Blend everything but the ice until it’s smooth. SMOOTH. If it’s not sweet enough, throw in a packet of stevia. Then add the ice and blend again until smooth. This makes a 32-ish ounce shake that is seriously a full meal.
To balance it with more carbs, add 1/2 cup of oatmeal in the original blend.
It helps to have a big-time blender like a Vita-Mix, but
other blenders will get the job done too.
I’m all hungry now!
Thanks for posting the recipes…going for gastric bypass in 10 dayz have to do proyein shakes before and after surgery …thanks again…..
These suggestions are great and the recipes sound very good. I am an Herbalife protein shake maker and I try to keep my shakes low fat. You can replace the flavorings such as carmel or peanut butter with the Torani sugar free sryups, and it tastes just the same. Also, I buy the Benefiber powder and put it in all my shakes.
Just a few suggestions
Good information! This evening I am going to make one!
This list is fantastic!!!!!! I just bought a GNC On The Go Blender and i am looking forward to trying out some of your recepies.

Fantastic stuff from you, man. Ive read your stuff just before and youre just too awesome. I really like what youve got here, enjoy what youre saying and the way you say it. You make it entertaining and also you still manage to maintain it smart. I cant wait to read extra from you. This is actually a great weblog.
thanks for posting this is great stuff everytime after i work out i have to get some YUMMMMMMMMMY
This is going to be unbelievably helpful to me. My husband’s kidneys have failed and he’s on nightly dialysis and needs a diet about twice as high in protein than that of most people. Along with that he’s very restricted in the things he can eat. He can eat no nuts or nut products, no chocolate, no salt, only certain fruits and veggies, and is extremely limited in his dairy intake. But I’ve spent a couple of hours going through this list and have found 14 shakes that appear to be ones that he’ll like and that will add some of the needed protein to his diet. I’ve added the ingredients that I don’t already have to my shopping list and plan to run out today and get them.
Thank you and God bless you for helping a man who could potentially be very sick to stay healthy!
Thanks enelkay, I am glad it helped. Please let me know if there is any other help/info you need.
This is my own recipe:
1 Cup unsweetened Almond Milk

Charlie
Another VERY delicious shake
3/4 cup Skim milk
3/4 cup Cranberry juice
3/4 cup of frozen raspberry
1 Serving of Vanilla whey protein

Thank you so much for sharing. Now my breakfast & post-workout smoothies are never boring. I used to dread drinking my protein smoothie & now I can’t wait.
Here is one I just made up & it tastes soooo good.
Creamy Blackberry Smoothie
1 scoop vanilla whey protein
1 Cup frozen blackberries
1 Cup low fat milk
1 tbs heavy cream (I used 2 spoons half&half)
2 tbs low fat cottage cheese (yes, don’ skip this one)
2 packets of stevia
ice cubes are optional – I didn’t add any this time as the blackberries were frozen solid.
Yum, so good. Enjoy!
Thanks for the great recipes! I am really new at this protein shake thing! I am trying to lose weight and be leaner. I noticed some of the shakes said weight gainer on them. How do I know which ones I should use and which ones I shouldn’t? I would really love a response!
Thanks so much!
Love the list. I workout alot and my shakes were always boreing these sound so much better. Thanks!!!
Just a question… I had been doing the slim fast shakes, but now that they came out with their new design and cost a lot more, I don’t want to spend money on that. I have been looking for recipes that I could make at home, and I was wondering if these smoothies are similar to a weight loss shake? I do not know much about this, and I know that you need a lot of extra protein when exercising, but do these protein shakes work as meal replacement as well?
Also, has anyone tried making up a large batch of these smoothies to have for the week or a few days? I don’t have the time to make a shake every single day like this, and thus liked the convenience of slim fast pre made shakes. I was trying to find a recipe that I could make in bulk, and perhaps portion into empty water bottles or something to make them ‘grab and go’ ready. Obviously some would depend on expirations of individual ingredients, and would probably not last more than a few days, but would it be ok to make up a batch sunday night to have ready for the mornings of the work week?
Thanks for all the great shake recipes. I needed some new ideas as I’m on a 2 shake a day diet that’s working great for me, but I needed some ideas for different flavors.
This is what I call my MEGA Protein Shake (about 46oz). I make this at times after a real intense heavy workout and consume 4hrs before bed time. All ingredients are organic. Ok, now I give a range just in case some people like it more creamy or not. So for the creamier add the whole banana and less ice. You can also adjust the serving fruit size as well. For a particular flavor, such as strawberry, match the juice with the yogurt and the fruit for maximum flavor and smell. If you are indifferent then mix as you see fit.
16oz (Soy Vanilla Milk – 12 grams of protein &180 calories or Preferred Juice – varies on nutrition)
1 cup – 1 cup 1/4 of ice (Crushed or Not)
1/2 – 1 Banana ( 70-100 calories)
1 Serving of Greek Yogurt (Preferred Flavor – Brown Cow 14 grams of protein &140 calories)
1 cup of fruit (Your Preference – varies on calories)
2 Scoops of NOW Protein (Unflavored – 50 grams of protein & 210 calories)
How do these items affect the thickness of the shake:
Ice( is more thicker or less ice thicker? )
Blender Speed – I have a 12 speed, should I use a low speed or a high speed (for thicker shake)
Time-If I let it run longer, will that increase thickness or decrease it?
Thanks in advance.
